Joshua Redman (Berkeley, 1-2-1969), saxofonista (tenor) estadounidense de jazz. Su estilo se encuadra dentro del eclecticismo de la escena jazzística de los años noventa del siglo XX, con una marcada tendencia hacia el bop e influido por músicos como Red Holloway y Gene Ammons.* Hijo del gran saxo tenor Dewey Redman, Joshua se graduó en Harvard; cuando iba a continuar estudios unversitarios de derecho en Yale, Redman obtuvo el primer lugar en el concurso Thelonious Monk de 1991, consiguiendo un contrato para grabar con Warner Bros. y apareciendo pronto en la portada de muchas revistas de jazz.* Pat Metheny ha tocado como invitado en uno de sus discos (Wish, 1993, el más aclamado por la crítica). En 1996, Joshua grabó y anduvo de gira con el sexteto de Chick Corea en su «Tribute to Bud Powell». Sus últimos discos reflejan tonos electrónicos y de influencia de rock experimental.

Miles Dewey Davis (Alton, 25 de mayo de 1926 - † Santa Mónica, 28 de septiembre de1991), Miles Davis, trompetista y compositor estadounidense de jazz.Se trata de una de las figuras más relevantes e influyentes de la historia del jazz, junto con artistas como Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker y John Coltrane. La carrera de Miles, que abarca cincuenta años, recorre la historia del jazz a lo largo de toda la segunda mitad del siglo XX, caracterizándose por su constante evolución y búsqueda de nuevos caminos artísticos: Davis participa con igual fuerza del bebop y del cool, como del hardbop y de la vanguardia jazzística, sobre todo en su vertiente modal y de fusión con el rock. El sonido de su trompeta es absolutamente característico por su uso de la sordina de acero Harmon, que le proporcionaba un toque más personal e íntimo; el sonido es suave y melódico, a base de notas cortas, tendente al lirismo y a la introspección.

El guitarrista John Scofield, (Dayton, 1951), es conocido por interpretar una variedad de estilos de Jazz durante años. Sus tempranas influencias con la guitarra incluyen a Chuck Berry, Albert King y B.B.King. Siendo adolescente, Scofield comienza a tocar rock & roll, blues urbano y rhythm and blues. Desde 1970 a 1973, estudia en el célebre Colegio de Música de Berklee junto a Gary Burton y Mick Goodrick. Un hecho clave ocurrió en la vida musical de Scofield en 1974 cuando, con la recomendación de Goodrick, fue incluido en un concierto, nada menos que en el Carnegie Hall de New York, tocando en una banda liderada por Gerry Mulligan y Chet Baker. El éxito obtenido le posibilita realizar tours y grabaciones por toda Norteamérica y decide unirse a la banda de jazz-rock de George Duke y Billy Cobham. Después de dos años, Scofield, toca un año con Gary Burton, y eventualmente interpreta y graba con Charles Mingus, en 1977, Jay McShann, en 1978, y también con Ron Carter y Lee Konitz, entre otros músicos.John Scofield, forma su propia banda en 1977, en la cual incluye a Richie Beirach, George Mraz y Joe LaBarbera. Esta banda recorre Europa y John graba sus dos primeros álbumes como solista titulados: «East Meets West» y «John Scofield Live». Luego de otra grabación en 1978, forma otra importante banda en 1980 con Steve Swallow y Adam Nussbaum.

Lee Mack Ritenour nació en Hollywood (California) el 1 de Noviembre de 1952, estudió el instrumento con varios profesores cualificados, entre ellos el maestro de la guitarra de jazz, Joe Pass. Desde los doce años trabajaba como músico profesional en grupos como los «Esquires», el «Afro Blue Quintet», el trío de Craig Hundley y en el famoso grupo de Sergio Mendes: «Brasil 77». A los 16 años hizo su primera sesión junto al grupo: «The Mama’s and the Papa’s». y dos años después colaboró en las actuaciones de Tony Bennett y Lena Horne en el Dorothy Chandler de Los Ángeles. En 1973 formó un grupo con John Pisano, antiguo guitarrista de Herb Alpert, y al año siguiente con Dave Grusin, antiguo pianista del ya citado grupo «Brasil 77». Con Grusin, veterano pianista, compositor, productor y cofundador del sello GRP inició una magnifica relación profesional compartiendo con él la autoría de algunos discos como Harlequin. Influenciado en sus años jóvenes por los estilos relajantes de Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass y Barney Kessel, ha conseguido poseer un estilo propio y fluido. Su debut discográfico como líder fue en 1976 para el sello Epic con el álbum: «First Course». Lee Ritenour ha desarrollado a lo largo de su carrera otros estilos musicales distintos al jazz; sus coqueteos con la fusión del jazz con otros ritmos, fundamentalmente brasileños. De hecho, muchos de los músicos que comparten discografía con él, son originarios de Brasil. En 1979 graba para GRP, el álbum «Río», el disco mas importante de esa época donde el jazz y la bossa se daban la mano.Guitarrista polifacético, durante su carrera, Ritenour ha sido nominado 17 veces a los premios Grammy; consiguió varios álbumes de oro, y abundantes números uno en concursos de guitarra. Sus discos, cerca de una veintena, están grabados mayoritariamente para GRP, y su mayor éxito lo obtuvo en 1994 con el álbum: «Larry & Lee», a dúo con el también guitarrista, Larry Carlton.
